Chelsea drop more points, Wenger still prescient

I said after our game that Chelsea will drop points, do you remember my statement? And everybody looked at me ‘This guy has completely lost the plot’. One week later they lost at Manchester City, and it’s as simple as that. They have lost three games and they will lose more games, don’t worry. — Arsene Wenger

West Ham holds a poor Chelsea side to a 1-1 draw today and Wenger’s prediction that Chelsea (now 1-2-1 since the Arsenal match) will drop points is still ringing true.

Trust Arsene Wenger.

Like I said, Chelsea must have thought their win over us was the high point of their season. Ancelotti blames “fatigued” for this ‘little’ hiccup. This ain’t no hiccup folks. Ancelotti never complained abut fatigue at AC Milan. He had old player there and he has old players here. Most of his young players will be in Africa on ‘holiday’. They may come back fresh or injured but either way, our title chances have just been improved :)

Chelsea now have major distraction as John Terry has another ‘parking his Bentley in a handicap zone moment’. Terry is now accused of taking a 10K payment to escort a reporter on an unauthorized tour of Cobham. 8K was to go to charity and 2K to a middleman(?). Chelsea are denying it but are responding by increasing their security.

Liverpool are not coming back.

Mancini will not rally the core group (Shays, Bellamy among others) of players who protested the Hughes firing to the board.

Man U right now have no defense and its midfield was exposed by Fulham.

The teams may come down to AV, Fulham and Sp**s trying to horn into the top 4.

Despite our injuries, I like the place were in, the team spirit and our chances to take it all.

and it will continue to ring true; as Manchester Shitty’s Manchini will also soon find out.

People are so anti-Arsenal and anti-Wenger that they dismiss everything he says until it either come true or bites them in the ass. No one wants to give credit where credit is due.

Remember Wenger’s line about how disruptive it is to make more than x number of changes to a roster at one time in reference to Real Madrid. It applies to Man City as well.

So Chelsea have fulfilled the prophecy as spoken by the Magi.

One among the Portsmouth, West Ham U, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Man U will see their finances do them in. This is the other ticking time bomb that Wenger works to avoid w/ Arsenal.

@CTPA Not only do they dismiss what Arsene says until it comes true. At times they take it and claim it as their own prediction down the road. Just watch the ESPN pundits.

cpta. You’re spot on about our title chances.

How’s this sound….

Beat Bolton at the Emirates by a couple of goals. Beat Chelsea at The Bridge. We are in the driver’s seat.

We are NOW in the driver’s seat.

Tim, how about some sort of monitor to keep an eye on the 100 goals target?

Current average is 2.58 goals per game which dips the expected final total to 98.

Need to average 2.63 goals a game for 100. We can do it.

@Patrick, 100 league goals? I might be able to do that…

As for the gray text, I know, I plan a site redesign sometime soon.

Seriously. I can’t read gray text on a red background. I just can’t :)

i wouldnt be jumping the gun on the wenger was right chelski are dropping points stuff,we dropped points against burnley the other nyt and utd and chelski didnt, so whilst its good news, if we drop points on sunday against villa, and utd and chavski dont, then we’ll be no better off… better to err on the side of caution rather than proclaiming AW as some sort of physic infalliable genuis, infact, lets forget about how the rest of the teams are doing and concentrate on getting as many points as possible, before the nytmare begins at the end of january start of febuary…
3 or 4 weeks that will define our season

Sat Jan 23 F.A. Cup 4
Wed Jan 27 Aston Villa A
Sat Jan 30 Manchester United H

February
Sat Feb 6 Chelsea A
Tue Feb 9 Liverpool H
Sat Feb 13 F.A. Cup 5
Feb 16/17/23/24 UEFA Champions League Knockout Round 1L

Getting a bit carried away there Jack – predicting us in the 4th round of the FA Cup before playing the 3rd round. West Ham deserve a bit more respect than that – plus I fully expect AW to run the kids out in that game to rest the first team – so not as certain of that 4th round spot as you. Still I am happy to be proved overly cautious.

@jack,

we could lose all 4 of those matches and still end up on 86 points, which should be enough this year to win the title.

Vote -1 Vote +1Kevin

@jack, I’d much prefer to just take it one game at a time–our youth will easily be emotionally destabilized if we start looking ahead and counting points in december. I totally agree with Murray, in that we need to STOP worrying about what everyone else is doing and start worrying about what we are doing and how we can continue to score goals and keep this momentum going, as our injury table is still full!

@Kevin, that’s exactly how my indianapolis colts are still undefeated at 14-0, we take each week at a time, only concentrating on the current opponent..Arsenal could learn alot! (and could use a Peyton Manning!!)

Wenger would have to buy in January, if we should have any chance of winning the title, as u said many diffuclt games in jan and fev, with our injury problems, Wenger have to buy some quality.

Vote -1 Vote +1Xabier

@NorwegianGooner, And who is there to buy. In an inflated market it’s nearly impossible to buy well in Jan. And most of our players (Djourou and RvP aside) are back by Jan.

Vote -1 Vote +1ctpa

@NorwegianGooner, Not happening. All we’re getting is a lump of coal and Bendtner back for the holidays. Take your pick.

Vote -1 Vote +1Kevin

@NorwegianGooner, No need to buy until the summer, this current crop have been shown able to hold their own if they play up to their potential and as a team, that is the key is they need more experience playing with eachother in games and not just in practice. Once they all get on the same page, the passes will start flowing and the goals will come! (see arshavin–diaby–arshavin–diaby–goal!)

When AV play the gunners on Sunday I expect a high intensity game. The Villains will try to press the gunners similar to the tsunami that hit the gunners in the Carling defeat by Spurs. The gunners will have little/no time to pass the ball around and movement will be restricted by means of fouls if need be.
Expect a number of gunners to be injured by sliding/two footed tackles. I wonder why the football powers don’t outlaw it. Some players have gotten away with it. In fact such players shd be banned for as long as the injured player is out of action or points deucted. Then the managers will tell their thugs to rein in.
Mentally the gunners maybe prepared but physically are they ready? The Villa game will tell us whether the gunners can go up to the next level otherwise if AW doesn’t sign the ready made players in place of babes the gunners won’t win anything.

We will beat Aston Villa by 3 goals……pls find the odds and put some cash on it!!

Song’s going to ACN. van Persie’s out for the season. Almunia’s not very good. There’s no cover for Gallas if he gets injured (unless you count Silvestre or Senderos).

That’s four positions that we should be concerned about. We shouldn’t be smug about Chelsea’s woes, Man Utd’s woes, Liverpool’s woes…. because we’ve got woes of our own. We need a few players in Jan to shore up our position, and we can talk about the Premier League only IF we get those players.

Call me a wowser if you want, but that’s the way I see it.

Help me out here. If I comment about future scenarios and someone says I should just concentrate on the next game.

Uhm, what am I supposed to do exactly? Is it just a nice way of saying to shut it? :)

Vote -1 Vote +1Kevin

@Patrick, not really…but for people to come on here and say that the last week in January and the first few weeks in February are our most important of the season I think does a bit of disservice to the fact that we’ve just lost two points at turf moor and face an incredibly tough test against AV this week. Isn’t the next game you’re playing supposed to be the most important game? People tend to succeed in life, in general, by staying focused and concentrated on the task at hand. I’ve always loved the line about “the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time”

To the people who commented earlier about getting ahead of myself and and to conecentrate on one game at a time, that’s exactly what i said… i mentioned that whilst utd and chelsea dropped points this wknd, if we drop points against villa and the both win, we are back to where we started… as for the 2 week stretch at the end of january beginning of febuary, saying that will make or break our season, doesnt take anything away from our performances so far, we seem to have these big weeks, or fortnights every season, and we have failed other the last couple of years to deal with them, ultimately what im saying is that we need to put a good run together so we can pick as many points as possible before then, so if the worst happens our season wont go down the pan in 14 days…lol remember last year, champions league, then tanked by chelsea in the fa cup and then the league again within the space of 3 weeks, dont want to see another repeat of that, i dont think i could take it!!!lol

At this moment in time, the AV game IS the most important game of our season.
Song will leave shortly thereafter for the ACN.

We need to continue to show we can win points despite our injuries and off form players (Eduardo and Almunia).

We don’t want to be part of the ‘old’ guard that are be successfully challenged by the likes of AV and Fulham.

A win tells AV you’re not quite there me bucko.

It is at this pivot point that our players have to show the supporters that they have the mental strength to get over the hump.

A win would put us in 2nd w/ a game in hand (Bolton)and that silence you hear from SAF is deafening right now.
