All Arshavin’s Touches Against Liverpool, Fair Play, CL Final v. Superbowl, and more!
Sorry about the quick links today, I had work super early and just couldn’t finish this article I’m writing about height, perception, and fouls which should show that Arsenal empirically get short shrift when it comes to foul calls. Or maybe it will show that I’m a paranoid nutcase. Either way, I’m writing it and it will probably be out later today.
In the mean time, here’s some delicious, delicious links to tide you over…
All of Andrei Arshavin’s Touches in his 4 Goal Masterclass
No introduction needed, though depending on your musical taste you may want to turn the sound down.
Clara Morgane Did What?
I have no clue what’s going on here but there are some nice pictures of Clara Morgane [Passe en Profonduer]
Old Firm Clash Gets “Fiery”
Police confirm that DaMarcus Beasley’s car was set on fire. Uhh… yeah, let’s let THEM into the Premier League. [The Scotsman]
It’s the sport of kings, better than diamond rings…
Last year’s Champions League Final beat out the Superbowl by a total of 44 million television viewers. I was surprised to find out that this is the first time that the CL Final beat out the Superbowl, I assumed that it’s always been that way. What is interesting is that world wide, 162 million people were so bored that they watched at least part of the Pittsburgh Steelers play the Arizona Cardinals.
Don’t you people have lives?
Anyway, the two events drew 368 million people to their televisions and that just proves one thing to me: football, however you play it, is king. [The Offside]
When’s the last time Arsenal started an Englishman in the holding role?
Craig Eastmond is just 19 years old but after a whirlwind year which saw him break into the reserves, score his first goal there, win the Youth Cup, get a professional contract, start in the Carling Cup, and last (but not least) get a first team start at Bolton he’s eager to keep ticking on. When I’ve seen him play he’s not been magical, but he has that sort of methodical, plodding, grind your opponent down type of play that underrated holding mids have. If he gets more comfortable with the ball, he could become magical. Just like our Song! [The Dot Com -- ATVO Subscription needed to watch the interview]
Now THAT is fair play
Holy crap, could you imagine Wayne Looney doing this?
Last chance!
I have a few slots open for the Red Level Membership recommendation scheme. It works like this; you tell me you want to become a Red Level Member by sending me an email, I submit your name along with the others, you sign up for Red Level Membership (£30) and get access to match tickets, and you get a £5 voucher for the Arsenal store and I get a £10 voucher for the Arsenal store. Sound good? Hit me up!

Wow, never heard of Clara Morgane before but will def keep an eye out in future. Great blog by the way, am a regular reader, its good to get a different, and funny point of view. Its refreshing. Keep up the good work. Nik
Funny, I figured the Champions League final TV ratings would have been bigger than the Super Bowl every year, too.
I actually went to the final in Moscow 2 years ago (yeah, I know, ManU and Chelsea. I was hoping that Lampard would kick Ronaldo in the knee and that they would both just explode in flames…) The Russians have a long way to go in learning how to fully exploit the commercial potential of things. I had trouble finding programs to purchase and there were no t-shirts to be found anywhere near the stadium. They needed a few Americans over there to show them how to commercialize! Can you imagine being in Miami this week and not being able to find a t-shirt? I ended up spending the day after the final traveling around Moscow trying to find hats and shirts, ending up at an Adidas outlet store in the middle of nowhere, where apparently all of the stuff had been shipped basically after the final whistle had sounded. Things should be better in Madrid, I expect, and maybe there will be Arsenal stuff there this year…
thanks for the archavin link… a reminder of when he used to score big goals and run his ass off. he seemed a lot happier last year. let’s hope for good things this sunday.
Wish I could help u on the red level member recco, but already joined last summer. We have our flights and hotel set for the burnley and champs league like u in march. So I’ll be online with you in the middle of the night on sun and mon hopefully getting tix. Not worried about burnley, but am a little concerned about getting them for Porto. Thanks for the excellent daily read.
Hey Tim. You’re a paranoid nutcase.
You’re all paranoid nutcases. Except for me. I’m not paranoid.
I watched last year’s 4-4 at a Liverpool-supporting mate’s place. When Arshavin scored to get up 4-3 up, I was feeling a bit guilty because my friend was pretty sad. Couldn’t really celebrate. So I wasn’t that upset when Liverpool drew; at least I knew my friend wouldn’t kick me out of his house at 5:00am. He had the nerve to say that all of Arshavin’s goals were soft, though.
And we watch the Superbowl in Australia because it’s on in the morning and it’s either than or watching breakfast TV. Plus, free-to-air TV has been showing selected gridiron games, so you end up following it casually. I don’t understand the appeal of 3 hours worth of set-plays, but to each his own.
living in England ,i always watch the Superbowl and never miss once in the last 16 years ( poor Bills fan here
)even so it will be finishing late in the early morning.Bring friend ,buy beer (lot)and crips and watch a superb show.
