Chamakh signs, needs haircut badly

The dot com has released video of our new number 29, Marouane Chamakh, and all I can say about the signing is good gods man, cut that mullet.

The good news is that this signing will now distract us from all that talk about whats-his-name signing for those people in that other league. See, I already forgot.

What was I talking about?

Oh yeah, mullets.

Rock over London!

He needs to work out on the gym now! He will be targetted by all the English left backs that lack skills on the ball. I agree about the mullet. He looks like a charicature of the tumbler Ronaldo (nike ad with Homer)

Though gotta say , Barca shows Villa with their new kit and we end up giving chamakh old kit and unhappy Wenger.

Square peg in a round hole ,he is similar to Adebayor, will take time to settle in ,is right footed(only) and has poor reflex for a striker,he might score from headers ,but for the worst crossers in the league that is useless, useless signing ,though i will be happy to be wrong, but this has Adebayor written all over it

    Vote -1 Vote +1Tim Reply:

@Robin, Jesus, I hope you’re right. Adebayor was awesome when he wanted to play.

@Tim, This guy will bring more work rate on consistent basis and that alone will fire up the faithful.

Adebayor was a great signing. Cost barely anything, scored a boatload of goals one season, and was sold for a giant profit. And Chamakh played his heart out even in his final season for Bordeaux, so I don’t see him having the same attitude problems that make us all hate Adebayor. If Chamakh does as well for Arsenal as Adebayor did I’ll be happy as a pig in $h!t.

And I’ve watched a few games of his… I’d compare him more to Bendy than Ade. He works hard, drifts around, likes to run with ball a bit on the right, but when he’s in the middle it’s almost always one touch passing, looking for one-twos with midfielders running on. I think that’s what really fits Arsenal, he moves the ball quickly and always tries to bring the midfield into the attack. And he was quite dominant in the air against French defenders… we’ll see how he does when the Howard Webb lets John Terry assault him in the box… but how good can anyone look when the opposition is allowed to cheat?

chamakh finally a replacement for adebayor, but he is not the answer.his goals per game record is very poor and it took barca less time to sign villa(not a free agent)

    Vote -1 Vote +1TonyM Reply:

    @arsonv,
who cares what barca do? they’re 490mil in debt in a country crippled by the recession and they’re throwing money around like nobodies business. its an insult and its disgraceful that platini doesn’t say anything about it.
chamakh’s goal-scoring rate improved alot in the last 2 years. he’ll get more chances playing alongside van persie
he’s tenacious, hard-working, excellent in the air and most importantly, he really wants to play for arsenal. those are 4 qualities pretty rare in this arsenal team so i think he’s a great addition.

    Vote -1 Vote +1Stroller Reply:

He’s been signed within a couple of weeks of becoming officially available, as opposed to running down his contract previously.
Anyway, that should stop you having a moan about a new player before he’s kicked a ball.

Vote -1 Vote +1The Happy Gooner Reply:

27 in 53 internationals is not bad in any way whatsoever. He will get more chances at Arsenal than at Bordeaux.

arsene looks tired. probably fed up. i don’t blame him when your captain says stupid things to stupid journalists

    Vote -1 Vote +1ArseChicago Reply:

I was going to say, it looked like Arsene was taking a nap and they walked in and was like, “Yo, Wenger, that Chamakh dude is here. Put on your pants.”

  • Vote -1 Vote +1clockendrider

Amazing how many people are such freakin experts about Chamakh. Let’s be honest, how many of you have seen anythingother than the compulsory agent made video on u-tube? Give hoim a chance. Wenger’s record on signings is actually pretty good.
Now go back to playing Championship Manager, you utter muppets.

    Vote -1 Vote +1Stroller Reply:

Agreed clockender. From what I’ve seen (only Champions League games on TV) he looks a class act, and it can only be Arsenal fans who have a moan about a new signing before he’s even kicked a ball. If he doesn’t score in his first few games they’ll be on his back for sure.

    Vote -1 Vote +1ctpa Reply:

@jake, Beats a ‘comb-over’. The guy is 26 and prematurely balding. So what. maybe that style is still in vogue with his hommies. There are some places in Canada where it is still popular. He is my team’s latest signing and at some point he will score goals. I didn’t want us to be signing Brad Pitt.

Vote -1 Vote +1Jet Pinoy Gooner Reply:

@ctpa Rooney’s headers improved because of his bald spot so it’s not a bad thing

Hang on, hang on, spikey/wet/mullet it may well be…but Cesc had a far worse example when he joined, remember?

Best part about him, is he don’t consume Alcohol, Atleast his Pants will be on when he comes out of a party……..

But Seriously I will be worried for this Lad in the month of Ramadan as he is a Muslim, he fast for the whole month.
But still no drop in his Performance even though he is fasting.

@Tim, Traore was always a Muslim, but he hasn’t been a good one admittedly.

As for the fasting comment, there is a clause. It isn’t compulsory if the nature of your job is physically demanding. Islam is not a religion which wishes to put its believers into difficulty. Which is why there are clauses in its rulings. Nevertheless, some Muslims, like Kanoute, Benzema, Toure, all strived to fast during Ramadhan, as a way for them to show their devotion towards their religion. But it is important to note that it is not obligated upon them.

They are professionals, religion should not be an excuse for them to not perform at the highest level.

Vote -1 Vote +1Jet Pinoy Gooner Reply:

In fact there are a lot of Muslims in Arsenal like Nasri and Diaby to name a few.

    Vote -1 Vote +1gooneramaan Reply:

@Jet Pinoy Gooner, Nasri, doesn’t follow Islam much, Kolo fast in the month of ramadan.

    Vote -1 Vote +1Mave Reply:

@gooneramaan, Nasri seems to be a devout Muslim as he holds his hands together for prayer before all his big matches in a pure Muslim way.

  • Vote -1 Vote +1Jet Pinoy Gooner

The fasting is from sunrise to sundown. A lot of footballers that are Muslim do it like Kanoute and the Toure brothers. If you were raised in this practice at an early age it does not affect performance too much with careful planning with the fitness coach and medical staff.

Did I mention Medical staff? Our medical staff? Oh my!

@Jet Pinoy Gooner, Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon did it too!! And they play a lot more games in the NBA!!

Vote -1 Vote +1Jet Pinoy Gooner Reply:

@goonerman in Basketball there are breaks and timeouts and you get subbed and rest and get back in again in football you stay in for 90 min or more. The NBA does not travel to another country to play in a totally diffrent environment like drastic weather changes. Basketball is played indoors. Basketball players get it way too easier than football players.

    Chamakh is a good signing.

I live in France, near Bordeaux, and I’ve seen him play a lot in recent years.
He isn’t the best player in front of goal, but he’s been getting better and better. And at Arsenal he can easily get 15 goals per season at least. His game really is suited for the Premier League.
He’s a bit like Adabayor, but is better in the air, fights much more, has better vision and has the right attitude.
He could combine really well with Van Persie and Arshavin.
Looking forward to seeing him in an Arsenal shirt.

Wenger’s comments are really telling: “squad”, “fighter”, “header”. He hasn’t been brought in as a star, that’s RVP’s job.

What I really, really, really like about this signing is that it’s a sign of a plan B for 10-man defences, namely cross the ball in. There are certain games when we simply cannot score by passing on the ground, and Chamakh and Bendy can really be an answer. And contrary to popular opinion, I’ve seen Clichy and Sagna deliver some great crosses, just need to do it more often, now that we can actually TRAIN on it :)

    Vote -1 Vote +1ArseChicago Reply:

Good thoughts. What I like is that he’s 26 and he seems to still be improving. I watched a handful of Bordeaux matches this year and while he might not have the best first touch, he brings a lot of energy and supreme aerial ability. Very nice signing.

  • Vote -1 Vote +1Me

Arsenal fans have to be the most ungrateful fans ever…they mourn about signings and when someone is signed they start tney start complaining before he even kicks the ball ! e.g Vermalaen

  • Vote -1 Vote +1Brahmabull

Mullet or no, there is a video on YouTube that I could watch over and over of him virtually leaping right over a defender, crushing the ball with his head and landing face on the ground – all to score the goal. That brotha, is desire to put the ball in the fucking net regardless of what is in your way. And that is an attitude that Adebayor never showed us.

4-4-2, gotta be. We can’t waste this guy on the wing, he’s gotta be central and playing off RVP. Going back to a 4-4-2 will benefit Eduardo and Bendtner too. Who it doesn’t help is Arshavin and Walcott. OH WELL. (sarcasm)

    Vote -1 Vote +1TonyM Reply:

    @Brahmabull,
spot on. this guy has desire. something we see very little of from the likes of diaby and arshavin at the best of times. we have an abundance of skilled midgets that stroll around showing no heart. this guy is tall and works his ass off, said he will give everything to win arsenal a trophy. could do with putting a bit of muscle on but no matter. great signing.
and the moaners need to remember, arsene is legendary at polishing a rough diamond. this guy will only get better for us

I know football is WAY WAY more complex than this and i know the labels i am giving are off but at the mo i cant think of ne better, but i like to think of “park the bus” , controlled offense and cross–>goal as rock paper scissors.

Teams that park the bus are cut open by teams like united who cross he ball into the box.

Teams that cross into the box are generally outplayed by teams who have a more controlled attack i.e barca

Teams that have a more controlled attack are generally beaten by teams who park the bus i.e arsenal vs chelsea.

So i agree chamahk may help break down defense. However the way arsenal played at the beginning of the season found this irrelevant since RVP and Cesc would create spaces or go into spaces to score goals by dragging defenders about.

P.S the month of ramadan is in august this year i believe so it won’t be much of a problem.

I am so glad chamakh has signed for arsenal, he is going to be a good player 4 u, only question i have is Where will he play? We need to go back to the 4-4-2 formation for him to fit into the squad.. I mean, just imagine a striking pair of chamakh (right footer) and r.v.p (left footer)… Dis is giving me hope 4 next season.

BTW RIHANNA’s last girl on earth tour totall rocks.
