Break

I bet you noticed that I’ve not been writing much lately. Apart from the pieces that I did for Arseblog News, I’ve basically taken off for the last week. I can’t say that I’ve been ill, that there was a family emergency, or that I’m suffering from depression. It’s just that I’m bored with writing about Arsenal at the moment and need a chance to recharge my creativity.

I need to read some books and think about things for a couple of weeks. I also need to do some housekeeping. Apparently the site is no longer showing up in NewsNow and I need to change my theme again, because this one was a bust: it’s supposed to be a smart-phone first theme but it makes commenting on a smart phone painful. It’s also supposed to be “fully customizable” but I can’t change the color of the font without mucking around in PHP. And yes, I asked the developer, he was unhelpful.

Anyway, you will see a few posts here and there as I test things out or if something strikes my fancy but the daily postings are going to stop until July.

See you after the 4th.

About Tim

Owner, editor, and daily pundit for 7amkickoff. Started writing at 7amkickoff.com on January 1, 2008 as a New Year’s resolution and have written about Arsenal and other topics nearly every day since. Published in So Paddy Got Up the Arsenal Anthology and bi-weekly contributor to Arseblog News with my By the Numbers column. First fell in love with the Arsenal in 2001 when Wiltord won the League at Old Trafford. Have made the annual trip from my physical home in the Pacific Northwest to my spiritual home in London every year since 2006 when I saw Arsenal beat Charlton 3-0. On that day I saw three miracles: Arsenal play at Highbury; Pires, Henry and Bergkamp all play; and Alex Hleb score a goal. Father to my wonderful little daughter, passionate Gooner, irascible online personality: in that order. If you must, you may follow me on twitter @7amkickoff.

A whole month with 7am will be hard to endure, but after a brilliant season full of masterpieces, you deserve the vacation :D

You don’t have anyone to take over while you’re having a break?
Can the guest columnist take over so that it will remain daily blog? You know, like Arseblog doing now.
Anyway, just take a break until you fully refreshed. Have a good break,Tim.

Seems your hard work is paying off Tim – your ‘Break’ post appeared on NewsNow – maybe it’s just my stuff that NN finds abhorrent?

Relax, put yer feet up and have a good break.

Before you know it the new season will be upon us again. :-)

You more than deserve it. You run one of the best Arsenal sites on the web, and you do it for free. Enjoy your break, can’t wait for your return!

You bet I noticed? YOU BET I NOTICED? FUCKING HELL TIM I’VE HAD A MELTDOWN PRETTY MUCH EVERY FUCKING MORNING.

In other news, the “Butcher of Montreal” was caught in Germany today, so that’s good.

    Uh.

Tim, I realize this is an Arsenal blog, but how about doing some blogging on the Euros, if you’re at all interested in the tournament. I’ll be watching every game, and it might be fun to have a forum to discuss the games, including the involvement of our players (as well as potential targets, of course), and every gesture of Robin Van Persie as an indication of his preference to stay or go?

But yes, I get the need to step away from one’s work or hobby in order to gain some new perspective and even just to rest.

I vote for Bunburyist to blog the Euro games on 7am. That way Tim will get his break and his faithful readers will still be entertained.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO is exactly what I was going to say :)

Can’t say you haven’t earned it Tim. Didn’t realise how much a daily routine reading your blog had become for me. Have a good vacation and see you when you’re back.

How very selfish. Just think of yourself. What are us moochers supposed to do until July? Watch the Euros? Oh yeah, that’ll be a delight as and Englishman.

Tim, you’re going to miss all the joys of the off-season: putting up with all the transfer nonsense, watching Chelski and Citi buying up all the talent, the developing RvP contract saga, the Totts finding new ways to shoot themselves in the feet, trying to stay awake through the Euros… can’t understand why you want a break, really.

Hurry back or I’ll have to start watching the cricket…

    Cheers, mate.

Get a good rest Tim. Not much going on by way of Arsenal anyway. Transfer nonsense is not even worth discussing at this point either.

I’m pulling out my copy of Arsene’s biography and Fever Pitch to reread in June. Might even catch up on the movies I missed while stressing over the Arsenal.

    Enjoy the break, Tim

Just watching that 2nd United game from January. Shoulda won that one. Ox about to get Yanked after his brilliant assist. Roy Hodgson certainly watched this. But he probably feels one of his lucky breaks is that Wenger used Ox so sparingly and he has much to give over the next month.

Tim, have a great break. If we don’t hear from you that’s fine, but if you want to change the subject and write about anything else at all, we’ll be glad to read it.

I guess I’m saying you have my permission. Not that this is a democracy or anything. Fuck it, you could demand all comments be written in iambic pentameter if you wanted.

But thanks for running your intentions by
The stressed and frantic readers of your blog
And telling us your plans for fragrant June
Who sinks into the Summer transfer bog

recharge them batteries and have a great vacation…Tim..
May be you could leave a blank message everyday..with just a “FooT for thought” title and the comments section open…

otherwise its gonna be wierd coming here everyday and finding the “Break” message… And I think most of us will keep coming over..

As the comments bear out, this is an addictive site. Long may it continue, but I need a break from the constant worry and tension that comes with being a devout Gooner. When you’re back in July I’m going to try hard (and miserably fail) to try and RELAX and ENJOY being an Arsenal supporter.

As a neutral, the Euros should help refresh and recharge the batteries, (as long as the big Arsenal names stay healthy and escape intact of course). I like Bunburyist’s idea of a little blogging during the Euros if you’re up to it.

Who’s going to have the best tournament? Van Persie? Oxlade-Chamberlain?

Anyway, enjoy your (sort of) month off and cheers all…

    Thanks for the kind words.

The ability to comment on an article expires after a few days. So, I will try to post something every few days to keep the comments going. Maybe I will post nothing but terrible poetry.

Fascinating article on RVP and his philosophy about the game. Its amazing how much of a romantic he is about football. I doubt few footballers find “taming a bullet pass” as being “sexy” and wax lyrically about the type of passes they receive as being “works of art.”
I think one of the keys to having him re-sign is Arsenal signing a playmaker. Someone who like Theo now and Cesc in the past is on the same wavelength as him and gives him the supply that he needs. Like if the rumors are true about one Ibrahim Afellay who happens to be a very good friend of his and in an article i just read says that him and RVP just click on the field and speak the “football language.”
I remember as did Robin himself wonder why we never did make a move for Van der Vaart when he was available for so cheap. £8m was a steal.
and Dennis Berkamp truly is God.

Also, its nice to see the Captain putting in time after training every day to work with Theo on his finishing.
“Nowadays he occupies himself with Walcott, the Arsenal winger who scores far too rarely given how often his searing pace has put him alone in front of goal. After formal training sessions end, Van Persie passes to Walcott 20, 30 metres from goal. Then Walcott has to sprint, watch what the keeper does, concentrate and finish. I remember a recent goal against Aston Villa that may well have been a result of that extra work.”
