Sleeping through Henri’s goal

I’m too old for this. And by ‘this’ I mean pounding pints of lager, doing shots of Irish whiskey, eating like an asshole, and then sleeping through a wind storm which blew the doors off my house. I mean, it’s 9:30 and I haven’t finished my first cup of coffee. I’m too old for this.

Arsenal played yesterday and I didn’t see the game. I’ve seen some highlights. I saw that everyone’s favorite player, who scored that one goal against Tottenham, scored a winner. It’s a good goal, well taken, and from what I’ve read, it was the highlight of an otherwise lackluster game. Also, somehow Gervinho scored. I’ve watched the highlights of his goal several times and still can’t tell who deflected that goal in.

And now I have to go back to bed or go play football. One or the other.

I just finished watching the Anderlecht game. It wasn’t the most exhilarating game I’ve ever watched but it was nice to see The Arsenal playing again.

We played a 4-3-3 with Chamakh, Lansbury and Watt upfront. The midfield comprised of Eisfeld, Yennaris and Eastmond. The backline had Gibbs, Miquel, Boateng and Jenkinson.

Here’s what stood out for me.

Jenkinson is a project and I would be terrified if we had to depend on him alone for the season. This kid has lots of energy and can cross the ball, but is still lacking in all other facets. I was really hoping to see some improvement, but it’s not apparent.

Miquel seems to have good positioning but made a poor backpass early on that could have led to a goal. He got better as the game went on. He also got some decent interceptions and clearance or two.

Eisfeld played as the attacking midfielder. To his detriment he didn’t drop deep in search of the ball. In a game where we didn’t have a lot of possession, it meant he hardly saw any of the ball. He was our lone January signing and hoped he would have made more of an impact.

Chamakh had a great first touch and shot on goal saved. Would have been great to see him score even though it is only preseason. But Lansbury scored where Chanakh couldn’t. Go figure
