Here’s your list of Golden Boot winners since the inception of the Premier League. And here’s a list of facts:
- There have only been 7 players who have scored 30+ goals in a single season since the start of the Premier League.
- There have only been three players who increased their output the year after they won the Golden Boot.
- There have only been five players in 20 years who have not seen a drop in their output the year after they won the Golden Boot.
- The average drop in output is -9 goals.
- Before 2001-2002 the Golden Boot winner’s team finished in the top four just 6 times.
- Since 2001-2001 every Golden Boot winner’s team has finished in the top four, both in the season they win the award and the season after.
- Only one Golden Boot winner’s team has been relegated the year after they had a player win Golden Boot
- Only two players have won Golden Boot in three consecutive seasons: Shearer and Henry.
- Only one player has won Golden Boot four out of five seasons: Thierry Henry.
- Theirry Henry would have won five consecutive Golden Boot awards had he scored just one more goal in 2002/2003 instead of getting 23 assists.
- Yes, you read that right. 24 goals, 23 assists in 2002/2003. I’m counting that as a fucking Golden Boot.
- Thierry Henry is the only player to win Tim’s Golden Boot award for 5 consecutive years.
- There was only one Golden Boot winner who left England the year after he won the Golden Boot (Jimmy Floyd Hassleebaienekes)
- There have only been 7 seasons in which the team with the Golden Boot winner did better the year after their player won the Golden Boot
- Only two of those teams’ seasons coincide with the player doing as well or better than the season before, but JFH doesn’t count because he went to Athletico Madrid.
What did I miss?

van Nistelrooy could not have won the golden boot without the help of dodgy referees and questionable penalties!
van Persie is the first winner with a team that did not get any penalty at home; who can top that?
only 6 players have 30+
Right you are.
The feat has been done 7 times but Shearer did it twice, ergo 6 players. Nice spot. +2
yeah, i know what you meant but thought i should just point it out for stats sake
Assuming RVP wins the boot this season, Arsenal will be the team with the most number of Golden Boot winners (5), and the only team who have had more than one winner that does not share the Boot with another team.
This is probably a reflection of the attacking football that Arsene creates. I would think your analysis lends some statistical support to a good argument we should be using to sign good strikers at Arsenal: “if you come to the Gunners you will get chances to score goals”.
Surely this must be on Mr. Podolski’s mind after having to scrap for his chances at Koln. One would also think that Arsenal should be putting a great degree of importance on a striker’s finishing ability – we don’t need our strikers to run around like chickens or be big plodding hold-up types because our midfield movement and full-back attacks will generate chances. Our strikers must then have decent movement and top finishing. Which is probably why Eduardo was so lethal before “that” tackle.
Cheers,
Jon
Hmm.. Does that means that Van Persie will stay? Because he surely won’t follow the path of JFH…
So, basically, Wenger should be preparing Podolski (and maybe another?) to cover up for the statistically expected drop of about 9 goals in Robin’s performance next season.
I’d still take 21 from RvP next season assuming others in the team pick up more. I think his leadership is important.
Thanks for the diversion, Tim, but right now, all I can think about is the game on Sunday and I’m shitting my pants. It’s just a game it’s just a game it’s just a game it’s just a game it’s just a FUCKING FUCK FUCK FUCK.
Where will you be watching as Arsenal’s season collapses in a pit of despair?
Take your pick:

I’ll be the one drooling and mumbling in the corner with my 2011/2012 Henry jersey, “Come back Pat, please…Pat? Pat?”
Is the game being televised in the US?
Yes, FSN or Fox Soccer 2 Go if you have a subscription to that service.
A well done summary of just what’s at stake for individual honours is here:

Come on Gunners, do for your captain, do it for your assistant manager, do it for us, but most of all do it for yourselves.
“Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there’s nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility;
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger. . . .”

Weird, I read almost the same article on the dot com this morning, but without all the strange formatting problems.
Two days in a row. Here’s hoping for a third south park reference tomorrow.
I fucking hate South Park and have watched a grand total of maybe 10 hours of the show/movie. What was the South Park reference?
A few years back there was an episode that had two seemingly homosexual crime solving characters that made fun of the Hardy Boys, that are also called the ‘Hardly Boys’. It is titled ‘Mystery of the Urinal Deuce’. It also makes fun of 9/11 conspiracy theorists.
South Parks one of the funniest shows ever. Scott Tenorman must die is the title of an episode and they had one with the Hardly boys as well.
That was Tim Stillman. I am not Tim Stillman.
Not sure what to think about the -1 for not being Tim Stillman.
Haha no clue what I was thinking there. My bad.
Both the Arsenal Blogosphere and Biosphere has gone strangely quiet the past few days.
Gunners must be praying or turning to their Witch Doctor’s for success this Sunday. Unfortunately, I just have a bad feeling and need to get my bottle of Appleton rum in case I need extreme consolation.
It will be interesting to see whether Arsene plays it safe and starts with Ramsey and Benayoun or ramps it up from the start wit the OX. If we don’t take the handbrakes off and go for the gusto I’m very concerned.
I’m just flat out refusing to get dragged into anything after getting burned by the M’Vila thing.
Nothing is as it seems, Neo.
Tim,
South Park is in reference to a geograpical area just west of Denver Metro Area. The creators of the show live in/near South Park. If you are interested, The town of Fairplay is in South Park. Fairplay may be the reference for the show.
South Park, like Team America World Police, is one of the most overtly racist shows on television.

Hope she has a great birthday. But really hope she has a great day after her birthday!!!Enjoy the all, they go quickly!
Enjoy THEM all.
I really need to proofread.
