‘Twas denchy, and Diame terps
did bobb and isco in the Klen:
All Cavani were the Moniserps,
and the monreal did falcaolen.
“Beware the Transfertalk, my son!
The Laws that buy, the Laws that catch!
Beware the Jovetic, and shun
the laborus Sambasnatch!”
He took his Wenger sword in hand:
long the toptoptalent he sought –
So rested he by the Transfer tree,
and searched his brain for naught.
And, as he search Whoscored.com
The Transfertalk, with eyes of flame,
came twittling through the slovey net,
and grimaced as it came.
One-two! One-two! Or maybe none!
The Wenger blade went snicker-snack.
And left it dead, and with it’s head,
he went galumphing back.
“And has thou slain the Transfertalk?
Speak to the twit, my beamish boy!
Oh fractious day! Callooh! Callay! Capoue! Cabaye!”*
He retweeted it with joy.

This was delightful. I’ve always loved how that poem twisted my tongue.
Wenger be praised for getting a typical no name but apparently quality buy in Monreal. We should also thank Santos and Gibbs for their respective roles in forcing this buy.

Brilliant, just brilliant.
I’m sure Lewis Carroll was a Gooner
Wonderful – gibberish just like all the transfer speculation but stylish and literate.
What a blog!
Snarky!
Yay Monreal! Hope he makes the difference we need to make it to third place (as per Poldi). Good poem Tim. Took a couple of readings to get the pronunciation right
Fabulous. If that didn’t take you days to write, I’m really impressed. Oh, who am I kidding – I’m impressed regardless. Good stuff.
So I really wonder, did Wenger just wake up this morning and have an epiphany that Gibbs was our only quality left back, that Santos has been crap, and did the accounting equivalent of finding some loose change in the sofa cushions to scare up some money to buy a proper backup or, gasp, create competition for a starting spot? Regardless, I’m glad he did it. Truly a frabjous day!
Truly frabjous!
Haha…sounds like an ode to the fans who lost it due to twitter overdose on transfer day….
I woke up in the morning…(the timezone allows me to sleep almost 1/2 of the deadline day) and read that we signed Monreal from Malaga…who likes Nachos…
This will be one of the rare windows in recent times where Arsenal outspend city…even in net spend..
That was definitely a preactive ode.
Oh, fuck. That’s awesome.
PS Tim, you got your wish for a left-back. Congratulations! He looks like a good signing on paper, looking forward to seeing him in the flesh (well, OK, in the pixel).
And now Metro are saying our other target was Capoue. If they’re right, then someone at Arsenal has definitely been reading this blog.
I can’t help but feel that 4 th place has passed us by, just like the transfer window. I feel cheated with the only purchase being a left back who can’t play in the champions league.
Amazing.
